Bangkok 1.0

From Sydney, we flew to Bangkok on 07.03. with a brief layover in Kuala Lumpur. I had a nice Australian sitting next to me on the plane, who bought me expensive airplane beer. So the flight was quite pleasant! ;-)

After being on my feet for over 21 hours, I was very relieved when I finally arrived at the hostel! However, I barely slept because my mattress was as hard as a rock and the air conditioning was set to what felt like -20 degrees.

On my first day, I started off as a typical tourist and visited the Grand Palace, Wat Pho with its reclining Buddha, and Wat Arun - three of the most famous attractions in the city. However, it was so hot and humid that I had to take a little break in the shade from time to time. :-)

After having my first fried rice at one of the street stalls, I had a stomachache and was afraid that I had caught something right at my first meal in Bangkok. Fortunately, everything turned out fine! :-)

The Grand Palace was the official residence of the Kings of Siam (now Thailand) in Bangkok from the late 18th century until the mid-20th century. However, in 1946, the residence was moved to another palace. The whole area was beautiful and adorned with lots of bling-bling, attracting people from all over the world (a lot of people!).

While I was visiting Wat Pho, a colleague from Australia suddenly appeared in front of me. It's a small world after all! ;-)

The main attraction of Wat Pho is the 46-meter long and 15-meter high gilded reclining Buddha statue.

To get to Wat Arun, the 'Temple of Dawn,' you have to cross the Chao Phraya River by boat. Since it can be faster on the river than on the roads, the boats are a popular means of transportation - not only for tourists but also for the residents of Bangkok. Because it is not only fast and cheap, but also offers a different perspective of the city, I often took the boat.

In the evening, I strolled through the famous Khao San Road, the meeting point for many backpackers, and the less well-known but much more beautiful Rambuttri Road. And I stuffed my stomach with delicious food! :-)
