Week 2

It turns out that volunteer service, even though it's voluntary, is still associated with work. Accordingly, a large part of my time is currently structured around this. I wake up at 6:30, prepare for training, and from 9:00 to 17:00, I actively and passively guide and accompany children and teenagers playing soccer. Certainly, I don't do this alone. We are usually at least three people. Included is (most of the time) food, which so far has exclusively taken the form of a very generous portion of rice, topped with a for me unidentifiable mixture of vegetables, which tastes very much like a very salty spinach. If I'm not eating that, I often have street food-like pastries, which usually cost a maximum of 200 RWF, about 12 cents, from the counter. Otherwise, in fancier restaurants, there are also dishes that are exactly like those served in Germany, but a complete lunch including a drink costs around 4 euros here. On the topic of prices - the entry to the 'Amahoro Stadium' for a qualification match of the African Champions League was just 1.30 euros. Because of course, I don't only work - but my leisure activities, from stadium visits with colleagues, to dinners with friends locally, to phone calls to Germany, don't really differ much from what I do at home.
