3. Day 22.06.2022 - Manhattan South Tour

Dɛn dɔn pablish am: 25.07.2022

After a restless night, Anne and I, we still had a fever, Pauline and Marie decided to explore the city together today. Pauline had her plan that she wanted to stick to. I was feeling so sick that I had no appetite and skipped breakfast. Anne was feeling a bit better, but still wanted to take it easy. So we both stayed in bed. Luckily, we didn't have a hotel room and had some space. The weather was cloudy, about 22 degrees Celsius. The girls went out around 10:00 am. Here is their report:

On Wednesday, June 22, 2022, Marie and I went out alone after breakfast. As we sat in the subway on our way to the Vessel, a woman jogged through the train at a station and ran there. Marie and I didn't think much of it. But suddenly we heard loud voices that got louder and louder. This is how the argument between the jogger and a man started, who started filming the jogger during the argument. When Marie and I arrived at our subway station, we first got ourselves a refreshment at Starbucks and went next door to McDonald's to use the bathroom. As I waited outside, I noticed the dealer next to me. We made our way to the Vessel. The way there made the city life in NYC visible to us. We passed by some murals and sat down in a cute street with small tables and trees where we had our drink. We quickly learned that in New York, pedestrians also cross red lights. We walked past the Edge and were impressed by this tall building. Unfortunately, the Vessel was already closed for climbing, but we could go in for free and admire it from below, which was enough for us personally, as the structure can also be admired from the ground. We had a photo taken there and Marie received her first compliment for her new tote bag. We were about to go to the Highline when we saw a table with swings instead of chairs, which we had to try out. After this 5-minute break, we went to the Highline and walked to the exit for the Chelsea Market. Both of us really liked the Highline. When we arrived at Chelsea Market, we were overwhelmed at first because of the many impressions and beautiful things. At first, we just looked around, took a break to eat tacos (the food court in Chelsea Market is recommended), and then decided to buy one or two things. When we came out of Chelsea Market, it had already started raining. Since we didn't mind, the next stop was: the building from the TV show Friends. On our way there, we passed by a small but expensive vintage store, where we unfortunately didn't find anything. At the Friends building, we took more photos. On our further way, we discovered a film set, which we didn't recognize. We walked through Noho along parts of NYU, where we saw a man in the middle of the street a few streets later, who wanted to come off the street only if someone gave him 20 US dollars, he didn't accept food. Then another couple gave him 20 US dollars. This situation gave us a scare, and then a man walked past me, who said into his phone, "give me the gun and hurry up", so we made our way to Soho. We really liked this neighborhood and strolled through the streets. In Little Paris, we had a coffee at MAMAN, strolled through Little Italy, and briefly stopped by Chinatown. Then we took the subway to the 9/11 Memorial, from where we made our way to Wall Street. I really wanted to touch the charging bull on Wall Street, but we couldn't find it, so Marie asked someone who then engaged us in a conversation. After a short time, it turned out that he was a conservative New Yorker. We discussed something with him (as a Trump supporter, he was of course pro-guns). He offered us to go to New Jersey if we wanted to shoot guns. We quickly declined. He told us the way, and after the conversations, we went to the charging bull, which we touched briefly and then disinfected our hands to look properly German :)

Meanwhile, it had already gotten late. My plan was to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. However, we were a bit exhausted, took a short break at Burger King, and used the wifi to look up the train route. So we arrived home around 9 pm.
