Sardinia Day 10 - Di las de

Dɛn dɔn pablish am: 04.06.2023

The last day in Sardinia began at 8 am with a photoshoot in concert attire on the beach to take advantage of the beautiful seaside backdrop.

Afterwards, we had until 10 am to pack our suitcases, wash the dishes, and leave the bungalows in a broom-clean condition, which we successfully accomplished according to the campsite operator.

With our buses, we then drove towards Sassari and made a short sightseeing stop at the Anghelu Ruju Necropolis along the way. The necropolis is one of the largest and most important in the Mediterranean region, as the sites were not looted. It was discovered by chance in 1903 when the surrounding vineyards were being expanded. The necropolis contains 38 graves carved into sandstone and connected to each other through tunnels. The decoration of the graves is often inspired by details from the houses of the living, such as vases, arrowheads, and jewelry. The burial site was used by different cultures. The variety of artifacts allowed for dating back to the late Neolithic period to the Bronze Age, around 4400 - 1800 BCE. Thus, this archaeological site is even older than the Nuragic civilization and can be chronologically associated with the construction of the Egyptian pyramids.

Upon arriving at the hotel in Sassari, we had the afternoon to explore the city until we met at 5:30 pm at the Chiesa di San Giuseppe for a short rehearsal.

Back at the hotel, we changed into our concert attire and at 8:30 pm, our fifth and final concert began. It was opened by the Chor Giovanile Dell'Associazione Musicale “G. Rossini”, whom we already met during the workshop in Nuoro. Afterwards, we presented our sacred program and then sang the first movement of Karl Jenkins' Stabat Mater together.

As has become customary after the last concerts, we stood in front of the church and sang Kwangena Thina Bo, which almost made the audience want to dance along. Even visitors to the nearby street festival listened to us with interest.

Like the last evenings, we ended the day with a communal meal and what a surprise: pizza again :)

Since we only had a very short night ahead of us, the decision was whether to stay awake or allow ourselves 2-3 hours of sleep.
