Eighty Mile Beach and Port Headland - Between Stops

Dɛn dɔn pablish am: 15.08.2024

8.8 - 11.8

8.8 - In the evening light, we reached our first campsite at Eighty Mile Beach and were greeted by many Agile Wallabies. Afterwards, we headed to the beach, where according to the receptionist, a shark had stranded that day, but fortunately, it could be rescued.

9.8 - We used this day to organize the limited space in our car efficiently and explore the Eighty Mile Beach on foot. The enormous - 220 km - sandy beach was very impressive with many shells, white sand, and turquoise water. Swimming is not recommended, though (crocodiles, sharks, and jellyfish).

10.8 - Off to Port Headland, which meant about 4 hours of driving straight ahead and unfortunately seeing many dead animals (including cows) on the roadside. The first thing we saw from Port Headland were the huge salt mountains, as the town is known for its large export business, mainly iron ore and salt. Once there, we stocked up on supplies for the coming weeks. Cooling off in the pool and enjoying hot dogs at the campsite rounded off the day.

11.8 - After doing our first laundry, we relaxed at 'Pretty Pool Beach' where many locals hang out, which reassured us as the water looked crocodile-inviting. Fortunately, we didn't see any, but we did spot a red kangaroo.
