From summer to winter

Dɛn dɔn pablish am: 07.06.2023

Today we thought we were smart and went for breakfast just before breakfast time because we thought everyone else would already be on the way. Wrong thought🤷🏼‍♀️ The 4 tables they have here for the whole motel were already occupied. Well, then we just occupied the toaster for a short time and at least had some toast for breakfast in the room. After that, as often before, packing our suitcases. Totally relaxed and without stress. Next destination: South Lake Tahoe.
Our drive took us from a summer-like 28° through cherry orchards, 'vineyards', and the prairie to: Hey, let's build a snowman🤣 Yes, Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America. And of course, it's also clear that at 1897 m above sea level there are currently no 28°. But right like this 😅 We, wearing shorts, t-shirt, and flip-flops, suddenly in the winter wonderland 😅 Of course, we had to stop for a photo and also make a snowball. Unfortunately, there was no time to build a snowman, sleet (Yvonne says, for Jörg it was easier hail🤷🏼‍♀️) set in, so quickly back to the car. Just when it was pouring down like crazy, all of a sudden cowboys on horses and wagons came towards us 😳 We had to google immediately what was going on. It was the Highway 50 Association. This is a nonprofit organization dedicated to horse and wagon enthusiasts and the historical reenactment of the "Great Western Migration" (you can google it yourself, otherwise, I won't be able to finish writing today😅😇). From 06/03 - 06/10/23 they celebrate their 74th anniversary and the highlight is a 'train' that travels from Lake Tahoe to Placerville. They really picked the best weather for that 😅
In South Lake Tahoe, we headed straight to our hotel, the Quality Inn South Lake Tahoe. Great location, close to the water, less than 10 minutes walk to downtown and the casinos, and still, except for the whining child in the next room, nice and quiet. And even a room with a balcony. Jörg first took care of his eyes while I wanted to go to the lake. Very nice sandy beach, amazing view of the snow-covered mountains, turquoise blue water, and then: $25, please. What, for what? Yes, this is a public beach and it costs that much. -Okay, I don't want to go swimming, just take a photo. Alright, no problem, $25, please. -Well then, forget it. The search for the hole in the fence also quickly came to an end, the rain came back. Back to the hotel, we were very quiet, but still Jörg woke up pretty quickly 😇 The rain shower was only short-lived, so we went back to Thomas F. Regan Memorial Beach together. Here we were allowed to go to the lake for free. Unfortunately, the water and the sky were now gray. But the view was still nice😊 Short walk, brought the car back to the hotel, and off we went into the hustle and bustle. Wanted to go to the HardRock Cafe, but unfortunately, there is only the HardRock Hotel here. We stayed at the casino for a while before we ended up at McP's Taphouse Grill driven by hunger. A nice Irish pub with live music. Now we're back at the hotel and see what we can do tomorrow. This is our first stop without a plan at all. Let's see what we have to report tomorrow.
Maybe worth mentioning, Lake Tahoe is located on the Nevada/California border. 2 different states, many different laws. South Lake Tahoe separates both states through Stateline Ave. That means, one side of the street, I can go to the casino in high heels or wear high heels wherever I want, while on the other side of the street (California, no gambling and no high heels within the city), both are prohibited🤣 You don't have to understand it.
