ASCHAFFENBURG - 1st station of a photo trip through the river valleys of Main and Tauber in July 2020

Particularly crisis-like circumstances that shook the globe as a whole did not only throw long-held and meticulously planned travel plans into disarray, but also disrupted life plans in various ways. As a kind of trial run for traveling in times of crisis, on the one hand, and to thoroughly test my new Canon Eos 80d SLR camera, on the other hand, I decided at the beginning of this summer to embark on a small photo trip through the Main and Tauber valleys, with detours to the eastern Odenwald, bravely defying the crisis.

River courses in particular have always fascinated and attracted me. River courses with beautiful cities and places of interest, lined up like pearls on a chain along the respective river courses. River courses as a symbol of life itself, from the source to the mouth, with all the twists and turns, their enriching tributaries, the expanding landscapes, their sometimes narrow passages and the resulting whirlpools... River courses in general. River courses like the course of the Main and the course of the Tauber.

It takes about 6 hours and 45 minutes to travel from Vienna Hauptbahnhof, first by ICE and then by regional train of the DB to Aschaffenburg, where the imposing Johannisburg Castle presents itself as the first jewel on the Main. I want to adorn my first arc with interesting views of the city of Aschaffenburg. With interesting views of a city that usually does not offer a travel destination of high prestige... - But an inspired traveler will, according to his inner nature, be able to discover, contemplate and admire interesting sights for himself alone, almost everywhere. Just like a river gives its own inherent imprint to every landscape it flows through.
