Welcome to LGGS

Dɛn dɔn pablish am: 05.03.2018

After being warmly welcomed by our host families yesterday, today it finally happened and it was time to say "WELCOME TO LGGS!" Right from entering the school building, the first differences to DBG became apparent, as you have to register at the reception to even enter the school building. Once that's done, every visitor (!) gets a visitor badge, even the teachers. All visitors must be easily identifiable at first glance. The LGGS students are easily recognizable because they wear school uniforms, but the teachers are also quickly recognizable as they wear a staff ID card around their neck, on which their name and subject are written.

The school building has a "Harry Potter charm" - a very old building with many winding corridors and creaking wooden floors.

After a short introduction by Mrs Dower, we were released onto the campus of LGGS and participated in classes throughout the morning. The first two classes were German - as native speakers, we were used as "experts" in group work. The topic of the lesson was "My Dream School". In conversations with our exchange partners, even more differences to our own school became clear: the LGGS timetable is completely different from ours and the break system is also different. Furthermore, exams are written in all subjects. We already mentioned that the students wear school uniforms, but there are more rules regarding appearance: no jewelry, no makeup, and the shoes you wear must be black. Only the students in the upper grades no longer wear school uniforms.

After the lunch break, we went into town. Here we did a city rally to get to know Lancaster a little better. Additionally, we had the task of buying a great prize for £1 - or what you can get for that amount. Everyone fulfilled the task and we are curious to see what happens next...

At this point, we are all back with our host families, winding down for the day.

Tomorrow it continues with an exciting day in the LAKE DISTRICT!
