It's two o'clock and I'm on the bus to Salto, on my way to my host family. The estimated travel time is about eight hours.

After spending four days here in Uruguay and attending the Arrivalcamp, a preparatory meeting organized by YFU, I am really looking forward to finally getting to know my host family properly. I'm excited to give them my host gifts, tell them about Germany, spend a lot of time with them, and get to know them. Of course, I'm also excited to finally learn Spanish, go to school here, make new friends, and fully immerse myself in the culture. Let the adventure begin!
The flight here to Uruguay was overall okay. First, the short flight to Frankfurt, where my fear of flying was at its worst. Then a longer layover at the airport, where I got to know the other German exchange students. There are eleven of us Germans who will be spending our exchange year here in Uruguay, out of a total of 35 exchange students. And we are all from Europe. After the layover in Frankfurt, it was time: The twelve-hour flight to Sao Paulo began. Looking back, the flight was okay and not very exciting. Except for the fact that my tray table was broken and I accidentally stole a blanket from the airplane. Completely by accident.

There I was, in Latin America, more specifically Brazil. From there, the way to Uruguay was not far and after about three hours, we arrived at the airport in Montevideo. There we met the volunteers from YFU Uruguay, as well as the Finnish exchange students, and then took the short bus ride to the Arrivalcamp.

At the Arrivalcamp, we first got to know each other and exchanged information about our host families and localities. During the four days, we also worked in workshops with the YFU volunteers and, for example, received information about the visa, the YFU rules, but also an introduction to typical Uruguayan (food) culture and way of life, so that we are somewhat prepared before we go to our host families.

And now I'm sitting here, just wanting to arrive and experience this adventure. Whatever happens, I'm ready!

Chau chau,

Your Clea :)
