18.03.2020, next stop: Galle

Dɛn dɔn pablish am: 02.04.2020

This morning after breakfast, I rushed to Galle by bus. The bus ride only lasted about 45 minutes, so I arrived relatively quickly.
That was also my goal, to check if my booked hostel is actually still open, because unfortunately more and more hostels are closing here.

The hosts at the hostel in Hikkaduwa were also very friendly and offered me to come back if I don't find accommodation here in Galle. Fortunately, my hostel is still open and so far I even have a 5-bed room all to myself. I also have Wi-Fi here, which I urgently need to organize my return journey as quickly as possible.
You can choose from various dishes for breakfast and in general it is cleaner here and I don't have to share my bed with ants :D The host from Hikkaduwa called me again in the afternoon
to check that I am doing well and if I have found accommodation. So sweet!

Galle is different from Hikkaduwa. It is more urban here with many small shops and there are hardly any tourists on the streets, but mostly locals.
Hikkaduwa, on the other hand, is a pure tourist resort with many hotels and a beach. It is quieter there and you can buy many souvenirs.

After arriving, I visited the fort, which is a fortress built around the old town by the Portuguese and later expanded by the Dutch.
The old town is super beautiful and from the fort you have a great view of the sea. The fort is even part of the UNESCO World Heritage. At lunchtime, I found a small, quiet restaurant and had Kottu and fresh lime juice. It was super delicious!

However, due to the current intense situation regarding the Corona virus, I will definitely cancel my trip and not go to Thailand and Nepal anymore. The sports trip and the tour
were already postponed by the organizations due to the current situation. Furthermore, it would be irresponsible to continue traveling at the moment. Now I need to take care of a return flight as quickly as possible and cancel the other flights. The question is whether I can even get a return flight at all...

First of all, I have now registered in the emergency crisis register
of the Foreign Office, so the first important step has been taken.
