Wednesday, 18.01.2018. A young girl, on her way to school, is hit by a car and dies at the scene. Her sister remains unharmed. The two young girls attend ELS School in Vancouver where their classmates are waiting for them in vain on this day. The entire school is in turmoil as a classmate from the Youth Program has passed away, who had come to Canada from Brazil with her entire class for one month.
Later in the day, Toshiki, one of my classmates from Japan, goes to the teacher in the middle of the last class and shows him a message he received from his relatives during the class. The teacher is taken aback and Toshi leaves the room. His father has committed suicide. We called his best friend and contacted his girlfriend, and together with the teachers, we arranged for him to fly back home.
The day was truly screwed up now. Carolina, Ana Catalina, and I decided to go to a bar to distract ourselves. Somehow, the latter particularly hit me hard. So we treated ourselves to two bottles of wine at the bar and did homework on the side. In the end, it was still a nice evening, even though it was messed up overall.
When I got home, I met the two Brazilians who are staying with me in the homestay. Since everyone in the Youth Program was in the same class, the two of them naturally knew the accident victim. We exchanged our stories, had dinner with Baba, and then went to bed with our thoughts.
What a black day...
