In the morning, the taxi took us to the Saladan Pier, where the ferry to Koh Phi Phi departed. In Koh Phi Phi, we boarded the boat to Phuket. After about three hours, we arrived at our accommodation on Kamala Beach in Phuket. We occupied three of the total of five apartments. The location was perfect: close to the beach, yet away from the hustle and bustle.
In Phuket, we spent a day at Kamala Beach. This beach strongly reminded us of Rimini in terms of appearance. The sun loungers are lined up and the crowd is completely different from other places in Thailand. You can tell that there are many direct flights to Phuket from Europe. Many tourists spend their holidays exclusively on this one beach. Here, the motto is: eat, drink, sleep (and get sunburned in the process). It definitely wasn't our cup of tea.
In the evening, we celebrated Mättu's mom's 60th birthday with a real Italian pizza. The food was really delicious! The chef, an Italian immigrant, definitely knows his craft. Just before we could order dessert, the lights suddenly went out. A transformer exploded nearby. The power outage lasted about three hours, but it wasn't a big deal. When looking at the jumble of cables on the roadside, we were more surprised that power outages don't happen much more often.
The next day, we booked a minivan, which took us to Khao Lak after breakfast. We checked into the Golden Place Hotel and spent the rest of the day at the nearby beach. This beach was definitely more to our liking: quiet and clean. Thanks to the numerous trees and rocks, it was easy to find a shady spot to relax. Although the town is tourist-oriented, it is not overcrowded. We found many nice restaurants serving good food and enjoyed the last days of our vacation with our parents on the beach. On Friday, we continued on our own at 5:30 AM. Therefore, we said goodbye to our parents the night before. Next destination, the hippie island near the border of Myanmar: Kho Chang.
