9.5.2019 Trains, Onsen and an old acquaintance

게시됨: 09.05.2019

Unlike other cities in Japan, Kyoto has few options for onsen. Therefore, you have to take a little train ride to get to one of the most beautiful onsens in Japan. After a small questioning session, as the onsen was not signposted, I finally reached the Genzan no yu onsen and it should be the best onsen so far. With 4 wonders and 10 hot pools from 32 to 50 degrees Celsius (yes, you could only stay in there for 2 minutes with constant lifeguard supervision), a very good and delicious restaurant with a ramen and okonomiyaki restaurant area, and old acquaintances of mine. Nana and I have a lot of connections in vacations and in our history with the little doctor fish, so I was very happy when here for only 300 yen you could sit in a pool for half an hour and these little fish tickle you while working. Fantastic surprise. Then two infusions and it went to the trains and railway museum. And those who know me, those who know where my passion for trains and also for the technology behind it comes from. And therefore the choice for a suitable museum on my last proper day in Kyoto was quickly made. Besides many Shinkansen trains and also old steam locomotives, you could not only admire a kind of miniature wonderland in this museum, but also get hands-on and become a conductor. With a simulator, if you put on the right outfit, you could drive a Shinkansen for a quarter of an hour yourself. One could have a crazy experience, as one has to pay attention to a lot of things and honestly was pretty overwhelmed with all the buttons and also operators (of course, they were in Japanese). Then we were allowed to witness the classification of a steam-powered locomotive in the museum, which derailed. After that, I walked home for 40 minutes and got myself a hamburger on the way. Again with teriyaki sauce and wasabi as a side dish for the fries. Really great. Tomorrow we are going to the Osaka metropolitan area with its 19 million inhabitants.
