Hello friends, in my first report I want to tell you something about our journey to Bali and our accommodation.
After a tearful goodbye to my family, Mareike and I said goodbye at the security check, then one last wave and off we went on our adventure. We flew from Hamburg to Amsterdam, we didn't have much space on the plane, but that was fine for an hour.
Arriving in Amsterdam, we had a layover of 4 hours. We used the time to have breakfast, explore the airport, and find our gate. When we arrived at the gate, we waited for boarding, then the big shock, we were called to come to the boarding gate. When we heard our names, our hearts sank, but luckily everything went well, the ladies just needed to check our passports and travel documents again. After recovering from the shock, we finally boarded the plane, a Boeing 777, a really big aircraft 😳. We had seats on the side, Mareike sat in the middle, and I was by the window. We eagerly waited for our seat neighbor, but then 'Boarding completed', our third seat in the row was still empty and it remained empty 🤩. So we had the entire row to ourselves for the 17-hour flight and could spread out. In addition to lots of sleeping and watching movies, we received 3 hot meals that actually tasted really good.
After 14 hours, there was a layover in Medan to check the plane. Then we had to wait another 3 hours, but we finally made it.
After a total travel time of almost 22 hours, we reached our first destination 'Bali'.
Afterwards, we picked up our luggage and found an affordable taxi driver who took us to our accommodation.
When we arrived at the accommodation, we had to wait for our room for another half an hour, but it was bearable, and we got complimentary drinks! In the room, we freshened up and then went to explore the surroundings of our hotel. After a 5-minute walk, we reached the beach. First time bathing in the Indian Ocean ✅! Then we went to a supermarket to buy drinks. Back at the hotel, we inaugurated the pool, and then we lay in the sun at 30 degrees and enjoyed ourselves.
At 6 pm, we met up with our travel group, with whom we will explore Bali for the next 8 days. We got to know each other and had dinner together.
Now we are completely exhausted from the flight and the first amazing impressions and are lying in bed. Seven hours of time difference don't go unnoticed by us.
Good night, your Johanna.
