Golden Bay 13./14.01.2017

게시됨: 17.01.2017

We spend the rainy morning in the library in Takaka and have fish & chips for lunch. The owner of the snack bar predicts better weather for the rest of the day, so after lunch we go directly to Te Waikoropupū Springs, also known as Pupu Springs. Another one of New Zealand's many springs. This one is incredibly clear and has blue water with husky blue eyes. This color presentation was brought to you by Claudi ;)

After that, we went to Paytons Rock, an unremarkable rock. However, during low tide, thousands of live mussels can be seen on it.

The next morning, we visit the Takaka Labyrinth Rocks. These rocks are arranged naturally, forming a small labyrinth. A lot of fun for children, as there are also small toy figures scattered everywhere. The rock formations are referred to as figures in a small labyrinth map. Among them are two kissing pigs, a stegosaurus, a canyon, and an amphitheater.

Having safely made it out of the maze, we go to Rawhiti Cave. The steep ascent is rewarded with a view into a cave. The special thing about this cave is not only the incredible number of stalactites and stalagmites, but also their shape and formation. In the late afternoon, they are exposed to sunlight, which attracts various plants that grow on them. As a result, the stalactites not only grow downward but also towards the light.

After that, we went to the popular Wainui Falls. The path leads through the rainforest along a river and across a suspension bridge to a waterfall about 20 meters high. Since it is so crowded there, we don't stay long and turn back.
