We have booked a ride with the water taxi for this day. We want to be taken to the national park by the speedboat and hike back to the camper. We will be picked up by a minibus at the campsite and taken to the water taxi. The boat is launched into the water by a tractor and after 45 minutes we arrive. As the boat cannot approach the beach due to the tide, we wade the last few meters through knee-deep water. Now we are awake!
The 19 kilometers that lie ahead of us are equally beautiful to the breathtaking views of the previous day. We hike through the New Zealand bush and occasionally see a beautiful beach. Following the recommendation of the guidebook and every flyer, we take a short detour to "Cleopatra's Pool". Why the scenery ahead of us doesn't really remind us of Cleopatra and why we are not blown away by the sight, we don't know for sure. Maybe it's the impressions of the past few days, which have been consistently breathtaking. Maybe the pools only look impressive in bright sunshine.
After half of the way, the strenuous previous day with kayaking and hiking becomes noticeable, and the blisters on our feet start asking with each step how much further we have to go.
When we reach the campsite, we treat ourselves to a coffee and a diet cola, without which we would probably have fallen asleep on the spot. The energy on this day is only sufficient for preparing dinner. In the well-equipped kitchen of the campsite, we start a conversation with a woman from Stuttgart and a woman from Karlsruhe. After several hours of socializing, the two of them give us a insider tip that will accompany us for the rest of the vacation.
