Namibia 2024: Back to Style

Today we head to the last accommodation of our trip.

The Kambaku Wildlife Resort.

But first we will try the state breakfast.

Namotoni also sticks to the canteen style, but it is a bit better than in Okaukuejo.

We are not thrilled, but satisfied.

Finally, we want to visit the fort of Namotoni.

Fort Namutoni is a former police and military station. The name corresponds to the loosely translated "the high place" in the Ovambo language , as the spring is located on a limestone hill.

Like Okaukuejo, Namutoni was built in 1897 by the then German colonial administration in German South West Africa to mark the borders of the German sphere of influence.

When we were here in 2008, the fort was being used as a tourist attraction. There was a souvenir shop, restaurant, cafe and a wonderful observation deck on the roof of the fort.

There is not much left of it, everything is abandoned and dilapidated.

In some cases, the shops have not even been emptied, so the goods are lying under several centimeters of dust and the restaurant tables have collapsed.

Why such a building is allowed to fall into disrepair is a mystery to us.

Well, we're going to buy some water for our cooler and then quickly fill up with diesel...

But what could be wrong? The gas station is broken and so the gas station attendant sits in front of the pump and uses his smartphone to download the internet.

Note:

Always refuel when you can,

not only when you have to!

But we still have enough fuel in the tank and leave the camp.

The little sister from the Domina tribe is waiting at the Etosha gate.

She seriously checks whether we have paid for everything and then gives us permission to continue our journey.

This is easy to do as the road is asphalted.

We make a stop in Tsumeb and fill up with diesel.

Nothing exciting happens until we reach our new lodge, so Carsten, who is driving today, doesn't really face any major challenges.

However, when we are just a little bit too fast,

The first police car we have seen on this trip pulls in front of us from the shoulder.

Mmm…

So our tactic was to take your foot off the gas and stay behind.

The speed limit was 80 km/h and we drove in a convoy with the police Polo.

But when we were gradually overtaken by more and more cars that neither stuck to the speed limit nor seemed impressed by the presence of the police car, we were surprised.

So kick down and send the patrol car into the dust.

What a great feeling, we are really tough guys 😂

The police officers both had a cell phone to their ears and therefore had no time to carry out a traffic check anyway 🙈

The last 17 kilometers to the lodge were gravel again, but in top condition. A private road 💁

Halfway there we were greeted by a Pumpa Mama with her piglet.

When we arrived at the lodge, it was just as we liked it.

A warm welcome with a cold drink!

It works 👍

The lodge is beautifully decorated in safari style and has several thatched bungalows.

In the bar you feel like you are at Daktari.

Actually, our girls wanted to ride through the bush with the lodge horses this evening🏇

But somehow we all need some relaxation

and we decide to spend the afternoon at the pool.

Dinner is served on the roof terrace.

There are two long tables beautifully set where all guests will eat together.

A fire blazes in one corner and the starry sky watches over us.

A very atmospheric atmosphere.

The food is definitely one of the top 5 of our vacation!

Our table is internationally composed of Italy 🇮🇹, Switzerland 🇨🇭 and Germany 🇩🇪.

We have very nice conversations and the evening traditionally ends with an Amarula.

Good night Africa!!
