Norwegian weather

게시됨: 30.08.2023

08/15 (Tuesday)

Rain, rain and more rain. And also my bad mood. I felt really sorry for Sven today and apologized several times. Due to the weather conditions, we (or I) decided to set off promptly without breakfast and use the day to cover distance. Of course only as far as Michel would allow it.

After only half an hour, Michel wanted to be released from his Maxi Cosi and we had breakfast standing at a parking lot on the side of the road while Michel admired the fjord on the other side of the road with wide eyes (babies are nearsighted, he probably saw something else). This continued for the next 5 hours until we decided to head to a campsite. At that point the rain was so heavy that we could barely see the pitches. But what we saw were small huts and we moved into one of those for the rest of the day and night. I'm glad that, despite our camper, we don't have the ambition to stay in the car on a day like this. If there were two of us, we would have read, slept and done other things throughout the day. But with a baby on board you need a little more freedom. In fact, we even put on rain gear at midday, but gave up the attempt to hike after a few minutes.

The cabins here are simple but adequate and best of all: the heating worked. So we were able to dry wet shoes and clothes and cook and clean up together with Michel. So at least he had a bit of a program. Now he sleeps next to us, but today he took longer than usual. I wonder if there wasn't enough stimulation today and he wasn't "busy". As always, it's probably the happy medium.
Tomorrow the weather is expected to clear up significantly and there are no more reports of rain. We definitely want and need to stretch our legs. I don't know when was the last time we (and Sven in particular) walked as few steps in one day as we did the last two days.
The campsite is (as is often the case) on a fjord and we have high hopes of being able to have breakfast by the water tomorrow.
A road trip with a baby is really hard and honestly not the best idea. Babies like to drive sometimes, but not every day and not for thousands of kilometers. Starting tomorrow we definitely want to stay in one place for a longer period of time and we are busy researching what is available there. We have come a lot closer to the national parks. Our goal is to be able to hike on smaller (or larger) tours and see some of Norway's beautiful nature.

If we actually go to Sardinia in October, we would like to drive overnight (that is also the plan for the way back from Hirtshals to Heidelberg) and hardly cover any kilometers on the island. Let's see if we stick to it.
