In the night, the sea calmed down. Just like the previous night, I was alone on Deck 8, made myself comfortable on one of the plastic sofas here, and observed the moon through one of the windows.
Because of the ship's up and down movements, it seemed to be dancing in the sky.
I slept very well. It was also really warm since the heaters were not turned off in the night. The first person I saw this morning was Dieter. On his way to have his morning cigarette, he passed by the Sky-Bar. We agreed to have breakfast in the restaurant in 20 minutes. While Dieter was satisfying his lungs, I freshened myself up. By the way, I completely stopped smoking since the cigar in Hvammstangi. The Icelandic replacement cigarillos simply don't taste good. For breakfast, Dieter brought along Bertrand, who also travels alone with his motorcycle. Bertrand, who is from near Montpellier, France, has been traveling around Iceland for four weeks with his KTM. Dieter had already met him a few days ago and had bumped into him from time to time. We have breakfast together. Bertrand speaks something similar to English and we have a lot of fun in our conversation about everything and anything. Bertrand mentioned that today is his 55th birthday. 'Where is his Cake?' Dieter asks the waitress.
'His Cake?' 'Today is his birthday'. But besides a few kind words and a peck on Bertrand's cheek, there is nothing more to harvest. There are only two hours left until we arrive in Hirtshals.
My journey now goes towards Hvide Sande. Here, I want to make a stopover and meet a colleague who is on vacation here with his family. After riding 250 kilometers in pouring rain, I decide to drive on to Hamburg. 70 kilometers before Hvide Sande, I call my colleague to let him know that I won't stop by in this weather. 'Why, the sun is shining here.' Oh well, alright then. And indeed, after 30 kilometers, it gets brighter and the sun is actually shining in Hvide Sande.
Compared to Iceland, it is extremely hot here, 19 degrees. I set up my tent at the nearby campground and take a thorough shower first.
I spend the evening with my colleague and his family, eating hot dogs and drinking beer.
It is very windy but dry at night. So this morning, I can pack up my tent without any dampness. Originally, I considered getting some rolls, having a leisurely breakfast, and then going to the beach. However, when I return from the washroom, I actually just want to go home. After all, I still have 380 kilometers ahead of me. So I pack up and start off.
At 3:00 PM, after covering 4700 kilometers, I'm back home.
Conclusion:
It was a great trip and I will definitely not be the last time in Iceland, but then with the car and the Best Wife of All.
I want to thank everyone who followed my blog and for the great feedback I received.
