On Sunday, we made our way to Palawan. 4 hours by bus, 30 minutes by taxi, and 5 hours at the airport. Since we had taken almost six hours by bus and an hour by taxi on the way there, we had planned for that much time. We had never been so early at an airport before. The plane finally took off at 9:15 pm and 65 minutes later we were in Palawan.
When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted with the words 'Welcome. We have no power.' So after 13 hours of traveling, we had to wait for a warm shower and an air-conditioned hotel room. At 12:22 am, after Chris had taken a cold shower and Madlin's mood was at its lowest point, the power came back - Welcome to Palawan 🤣. After an uncomfortable night and a loveless breakfast, we were picked up at the hotel and driven to San Vincente.
After 2 1/2 hours of driving, we arrived at the hotel. Since Chris has his birthday this week, we chose a very special accommodation for this week - a hotel right on the beach. When we arrived, it was pouring rain. We were warmly received already at the car. Two nice men carried our backpacks and another staff member had an umbrella for us. Our hotel room is decorated with attention to detail. Everything is made of the same wood, there is a huge mirror, a large bed, an air conditioner that is not directed at the bed, and mosquito nets are attached to the windows. The bed was very lovingly prepared and the towels were folded in the shape of birds. The bathroom is bright and modern. There is even a skylight. The terrace is facing the pool and equipped with beautiful seating. After arriving, we immediately went to the beach. The weather didn't invite us to swim, but it was enough to dip our feet in the sea 😄. The beach belongs to the hotel and offers many different opportunities for relaxation. It is also the only hotel in this bay; you share it only with a few local fishermen. There are sun loungers, hammocks, and a 'chair' that hangs between trees. Solar lamps in the form of torches are everywhere, which glow beautifully in the evening.
While we happily stood on the beach and looked out at the sea, Roberto, the hotel owner, returned from an appointment. We were greeted by him with a radiant face. Together, we sat down in the lounge area, had a beer, and chatted. Roberto is a cool guy, who is very warm-hearted and absolutely humorous.
While we were having our beer, the rain stopped. In the evening, the 'Sunset Beach Resort' lived up to its name. We were able to enjoy a gigantic sunset. After dinner, we played Uno together with Roberto and 'his girls' (that's what he calls his team). We had an incredibly funny evening with great people! The Sunset Beach Resort is a bit like a hostel: you sit together, play, laugh, and drink. But if you don't want that, you can also be by yourself. Anything goes, nothing has to! We are enjoying the sociability to the fullest.
Today we slept in and had a delicious breakfast. Then we borrowed a motorcycle from Roberto and drove around the island. We didn't get far because suddenly it started pouring rain. Since we are the only guests until today (late) evening, we used the hotel area for ourselves. By the way: The hotel only has five rooms. We danced in the rain, jumped into the puddles, and went in the pool - we were already wet from riding the motorcycle anyway.
Now we are sitting in the lounge area with delicious cocktails, listening to the sound of the sea, and writing this post.
We are looking forward to the coming days with Roberto and 'his girls'!
