Wow, already 20 days in Down Under! Time flies by. In total, we are spending 65 days on this trip, which means we still have 45 days left. Today, we start with a morning at the beach in Mornington, it's a hot 35 degrees.
In the afternoon, we head to Phillip Island. First, we visit the Pyramid Rocks. Then, we drive past the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit and into the town of Cowes for dinner. Dennis wants Subway again, while I get myself a chickpea curry. After that, we go to The Nobbies. It's a beautiful rock formation in the southwest of the island. The rocks are known for their seal colonies, but unfortunately, we don't spot any. You can also see whales at the right time of year, but we have no luck with that either. Instead, we spot geese and countless seagulls, which make quite a noise. In the evening, we have a special experience planned, the Penguin Parade. Phillip Island is home to one of the largest penguin colonies in the world, and some of them come ashore from the sea to their burrows at sunset. It's amazing to watch the little penguins being washed ashore and waddling along the beach. Several small groups arrive from sunset around 9 p.m. and start their journey to the burrows. Some of them have quite a distance to cover, and we even see some penguins on their way at 10 p.m. We return to our hotel late at night.
