6 hours time difference really made a difference. More for Erik, less for Freya. In the end, Erik was glad that he was 'forced' to have breakfast. Then Freya enjoyed the sun by the pool while Erik caught up on sleep from the night. We spent the afternoon by the pool starting at 12 o'clock, listening to music, reading, and swimming.
To see something else, we decided to visit a statue garden. It was 7 kilometers away, so we didn't expect to reach it on foot. But at least it gave us a nice destination to walk to. Before that, we had a delicious meal at Patio restaurant, with avocado toast and waffles. Both were super delicious and reasonably priced. We explored the beach promenade slowly because there was so much to see and it was busy. There, we also saw the marvelous view of one of Bali's volcanoes for the first time. We think it was Mount 'Agung', which has an impressive height of 3142 meters. We also discovered a turtle conservation center along the way. They had everything from baby turtles to adults, although the adults looked a bit sad.
As mentioned earlier, we didn't reach the statue garden. Instead, we stopped at one of the many beach bars and got a front-row seat by the sea. The location and the beautiful lights created a dreamy atmosphere in the bar. The live music added to the ambiance. Our new destination, Baby Monkeys restaurant, was still a little further away, so we headed in the opposite direction. Freya was mostly driven by hunger.
Finally, we arrived and enjoyed what was probably the best dinner we've had in our short time here. The fried noodles/rice (1.80€ 😍) were amazing, and for dessert, we had an arrack (a type of schnapps) with lime on the house. We highly recommend it if you're ever in the area! Not necessarily new but worth mentioning is the hospitality of the Balinese people. We have never felt so appreciated as guests anywhere else. In contrast, there are the friendly but persistent vendors by the roadside. It gets annoying when I get approached by 3 people within 10 meters, asking if I want to buy a scarf. It was even worse when we wanted to go to a market on the beach. We practically ran away because 3 people simultaneously invited us into their shops.
And that's how our day ended. We hope you're doing well and send sunny greetings from Bali! 😊
