A week before Heide, I flew to New York City. The days and weeks were exciting: bike accident with thumb surgery, skyrocketing corona numbers - some close colleagues also got it.
But in the end, everything turned out well. With a thumb splint, negative test, and a half-full suitcase, dear Heide kindly drove me to the airport before her work.
The flight itself was uneventful. Despite a storm, there was no turbulence. And unfortunately, the sequel to Ghostbusters that I watched on the way didn't take place in NYC, but somewhere in the countryside. Too bad, it would have been a good fit.
Landing in the thick cloud cover, and a lot of rain. Then I had to wait 45 minutes for the next shuttle bus (they run every 45 minutes, so I barely missed the previous one), and in Manhattan, I had to walk for another 10 minutes in the rain to the hotel.
After check-in, I went to 7eleven and got two slices of pizza nearby, and then a long day came to an end.
Day 2: Weather was better. So I did typical tourist things on foot. I wandered all over the southern part of Manhattan, over the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan Bridge, Chinatown, Wall Street,... Got a sunburn on my head. ๐
Day 3: Rain was forecasted for the first half of the day. So: museum. Apparently, you have to see the Metropolitan Museum of Art. True! And it wasn't nearly as crowded as I feared. After that, I wandered through Central Park in good weather.
Day 4: More sightseeing, Midtown and Roosevelt Island.
Day 5: Shopping! ๐ฌ I found some bargains at Jersey Gardens Outlet.
Day 6: Since my bus departs in the afternoon, I gained half a day to catch up on what I had missed: including Ladder 8 (Ghostbusters headquarters) and the Staten Island Ferry.
