Day 14 - September 17, 2023 Descent from Camp 1 to Dogubeyazit and visit to the Pasha Palace

The sun wakes us up, I'm up early and read extensively. 9 a.m. then breakfast with scrambled eggs and then dismantling camp, the season is over. A tractor struggles to the top and everything is loaded. At 10 a.m. we begin the descent. This time we walk down a driveway. The bus is waiting downstairs and takes us to the hotel in Dogubeyazit. We check in and move into the rooms. Our luggage arrives a little later on the tractor. We'll meet Assad at 4 p.m. We drive to the 17th century Ishak Pasha Palace. We have a German-speaking guide who explains everything to us. The palace is well reconstructed, but the architects meant a little too well. Before the palace is recognized as a world heritage site, a lot of things have to be dismantled. The tour guide, with whom we also discussed politics, then turns out to be a carpet dealer. But we can easily resist his encouragement to buy a carpet. Afterwards there will be a small final dinner. We get to the hotel at 9 p.m. and start planning the rest of the trip. We go to bed around midnight.
