woke up at six this morning, took down the tent and made milk. a day like the previous ones. but today it didn't rain and the sky was a bit brighter. a sign that it will be nicer.
around eight o'clock we packed up and set off with warm muesli in our stomachs.
the path is very beautiful, although it's not suitable for a racing bike.
as usual, we stopped for coffee along the way and got another wonderful homemade cake.
but we still had a problem with the broken saddle. luckily, we arrived in Villach at eleven o'clock and were able to go to a (supposed) bike repair shop. it turned out to be only a bike rental station. those who know me know that this doesn't stop me from asking if we could have a screw. at first, the man was a bit grumpy, but then his cyclist heart emerged and he opened the drawer with his screws for me. of course, the perfect screw wasn't there. but that didn't stop a handyman like me. since I found out that not only a screw, nuts, etc. were missing, but also a special metal part, we had to improvise. well, a thick cable tie helped stabilize the screw. the rest was done by the screw and the nuts. I even got to use the tools from the previously grumpy man. gave him something for the coffee fund and everyone is happy.
in Villach, we also got ourselves some sandwiches (and apple strudel) and enjoyed our lunch in the sun.
a bit later, we brewed coffee (really) on the sandy beach of the river and ate the strudel, again in the sunshine. a completely new feeling.
we continued to Tarvisio, crossing the Italian border. a few hundred meters of uphill at the end were basically dessert. towards the end, we were already cycling on the old railway track, which was converted into a bicycle path. I already know this principle from other beautiful bike paths, e.g. in Cortina d'Ampezzo.
since there was no campsite, we booked a hotel and once again we have a warm and, of course, dry room. it's amazing how much joy a little can bring. the hotel even has a restaurant and a wood- / stone-oven pizzeria. perfetto.
