What can I say? Two rock grandpas who would have liked to stay young - but personally I didn't think they were as cool on stage anymore ;-) compared to some other aging musicians.
Nevertheless: When you hear Russel Hitchcock sing, it's unmistakably Air Supply's voice. Just like you can hear it on any CD. It's a bit goosebump-inducing to hear it live.
But let's start from the beginning.
I actually thought beforehand that it would be a rather mellow concert. It looked like it, especially since I had almost fallen asleep in my comfortable cinema seat at the Saban Theatre during the half-hour wait ;-) The journey had really exhausted me.
But then it started! The Air Supply oldies had actually brought four young musicians with them who would surely really get into the right music. You could already see that with the Air Supply classics.
Too bad I can't upload a video here. I would have liked to show and let you hear what I'm trying to describe here :-)
In terms of sound, in my opinion, they should have stuck to the quieter 'acoustic version' with guitar and vocals. Because sometimes it was ringing in my ears. But that may also be due to the fact that I was overtired. It was probably more the fault of the acoustics in the hall than the musicians.
That's why I was surprised that the recordings on the phone sounded pretty good after all.
All in all, it's just an experience to hear music that you like so much - from the 'good old days', that you like to remember - 'in the original'!
I have to say one more thing about the audience:
They're crazy, those Americans! ;-)
Yeah, okay. Maybe I'm wired differently there.
When I go to a concert, I like to LISTEN. I want to feel. Enjoy everything. I can dance and go wild when 'Desert Oak' is playing somewhere again (They were good on the fairground Sunday, right? :-)
But the Americans...!?! At the beginning, I really thought I was at a Tokio Hotel concert with a bunch of teens. That's how they screamed. And that, although the audience on average was certainly a few years older than me.
And everyone takes their phone out... Photos. Videos. And immediately post everything on Facebook. Crazy!
And when the two of Air Supply dared to get off the stage and in between the rows of chairs for a song, it was complete chaos! All I could see were arms and phones. Everyone wanted to get a selfie with one of them. The music didn't interest them anymore...
I hope I can enjoy the original reason for my trip a little more next Wednesday. Ideally, just ignore everything else around it... :-)
