It was a very special day again - Lea was awake before me, which is a rare occasion and therefore needs to be mentioned. This was probably because Corona, or rather the announced restrictions, endangered her must-visit destination 'Venice'.
The first few kilometers to today's intermediate destination Bologna were quickly covered and the search for parking was rather unproblematic. Today our plan worked out: in a 'Zona Commerciale' (shopping center) there should be plenty of parking spaces. Since we were planning to use the bikes again anyway, the three or four kilometers to the old town were no problem. We both really liked Bologna. Unlike the cities we have seen so far, where the houses are directly by the road, here there are arcades under countless buildings, under which a footpath runs. This makes the streets look less narrow, and along with the countless street cafes, the city somehow has a completely different flair - it was simply beautiful. Today we also learned a few things! Firstly, there is not only a leaning tower in Pisa. Here, right next to each other, there are two gender towers from the Middle Ages, one completely straight and the other already worryingly leaning. From the right perspective, it looks quite 'crooked'. Secondly, despite immeasurable wealth, the builders here also occasionally ran out of money. Proof of this is the unfinished basilica. It looks strange but also very special when the marble cladding stops after the first floor.
Since the weather today did not really invite us to linger (fog, but 14°C) and Lea radiated restlessness, which I could even perceive, we just drove briefly through the old town and then searched for the exit. Our favorite candy here is Twix, but unfortunately the supply ran out and had to be replenished. So we made a short detour to the shopping center - we had conveniently parked there. We didn't find any Twix (apparently only available at Lidl and Aldi), but I finally got to eat a delicious pizza 😊
Then the motto was "Off to Venice!". Since we were really worried that we might have to end our trip due to the Corona restrictions and not be able to go to Venice, you could literally hear the relief in Lea's voice when she discovered the sign "Veneto". Now we are still on the mainland right next to the landing stage for the water taxi and are looking forward to nice weather tomorrow and a great day in Venice!
