Mantua - Ring once!

게시됨: 05.11.2024

I met Karl-Heinz again at the Adriatic to hand over his oil order. The Adriatic near Cattolica, just before Rimini, was also disappointing on the second impression. This 70s vibe is rather unattractive for the spoiled Baltic Sea lover. So after a morning round, it was back to the inland. The destination was Mantua, but Mantua was hidden in thick fog.

My parking spot was located in front of the city walls, and via a long causeway, you reach the three lakes built in the 12th century for the city’s defense. These lakes were fed by the Mincio River. In general, the city is very venerable and rightly a UNESCO World Heritage site. However, it could use a fresh coat of paint.

The way from my parking spot into the city and back out was somewhat eerie. Not many people were around due to the weather. While shopping, I almost left my VISA card behind in my anxiety; thankfully, I got it back. But the scare lingered. Well, it wasn't my best evening anyway. I did miss a travel companion a bit. There are moments when I really feel quite alone.

And then there are places where I feel so settled and completely satisfied, like today. The first campsite was already closed, contrary to what was stated online, and so the 'Rosengarten' in the Dolomites remained closed again (it stays on my list!!!) All the serpentines down again and back up on the other side of the Brenner Pass. I had my fun with the curves; the Italians behind me probably did not. They were constantly attempting daring overtaking maneuvers. I was rewarded with a city parking spot just for myself and a breathtaking view over the valley. I think I won’t continue on tomorrow after all. Let’s see how the night temperatures hold up. So far, I have been doing well with my sleeping bag.
