Today we drove from Christchurch to Dunedin. We wanted to explore the east coast of the South Island. It is mainly pasture land and farms, compared to the glacier lakes and orchards in the center. Due to the high mountains, there is an eastern, western, and central route through the South Island, but few connecting roads to switch between them.
We arrived relatively late in the afternoon, but since we want to head back to Queenstown early tomorrow, we had to quickly take care of the most important things today. At the top of the Otago Peninsula is the Royal Albatross Centre, where you can see albatrosses and penguins. However, they are not easily accessible without a guided tour, as everything is fenced off, and the penguins would only come ashore at dusk. So, I just took a few photos here with my 600mm lens, but we didn't see much. We decided not to take a tour, as we were already quite tired, and we couldn't take Odinn along.
