Guatemala: Giant Kites

Flying kites is quite popular in Guatemala. In Sumpango, it has turned into a big event with huge kites on the Day of the Dead on November 1st: the giant kites, or barriletes gigantes. It's amazing, something that deserves a TV show or video game adaptation :) Kites are designed and crafted for months in order to be set up, only to be flown (if successful!) or taken down. In a village nearby, Santiago Saquatepequez, the fun continues on a smaller scale on November 2nd. It's a nice way to end a truly exciting event! Where else is the Day of the Dead celebrated so vividly? The UNESCO also thinks so. Rightly so!!
