Yes, I'm still alive. I haven't written anything here for a long time because, to be honest, I had forgotten that I have a blog. Also, I didn't have much time for it. The past few days have been really busy, but now I'm taking a quiet moment to share some nice things.
Take a seat, because this will be hard to process.
Just kidding, but a few funny and interesting things have happened. First, we met an American from Philadelphia at the 'European Bier Bar' AND he was a real Marine. And as if that wasn't crazy enough, the great Jerry also treated us to a Heineken, #legend.
But we also had tough times here, mostly on the weekends. And no, not because the alcohol hit us hard while partying, but because we worked hard. There weren't many breaks. We had a few weekends that looked like this:
Thursday - Night shift (dishwasher); Friday - Morning (working at the Halloween Store); Friday - Night (Party Hire Assistant); Saturday - Morning (Halloween Store); Saturday - Night (Party Hire Assistant again); Sunday - Morning (store again)
After that, we were pretty exhausted from the program. But there was good money to be made and some workdays were fun too. For example, one time I had the task of distributing flyers together with a friend. But we were dressed up in costumes and in the center of Melbourne at a Gothic picnic. The journey there was already hilarious because I had been making fun of Nils' Gothic outfit the whole time. I was dressed up in a 'Steampunk' style. The picnic itself was really nice too, because the people there were really friendly and they complimented our outfits. Many photos were taken of us, even with children. We did see a few freaks who maybe took it all a bit too seriously, but they were really nice. There was also a grandma walking around with a diamond python. You could do that. Of course, I also touched it. The snake, not the grandma.
Another nice thing was when I forgot my pants that were required for washing dishes. As part of the dress code. When I realized it in that moment, I naturally panicked a bit and had questions like: 'Fuck, why am I so stupid?!' ; 'Are they going to fire me?!' ; 'What do I do now?!' But I kept calm, looked around the room, and saw another pair of pants in the same style that was obviously not being used at the moment. So I grabbed them, but when I changed, I realized that the pants were tailored for someone with a bit more beer belly. They were XXL, at least around the belly. The rest of the workday was accompanied by the constant fear of losing my pants.
Another cool event was when we were in a group of 40 T-Rex at Federation Square. It was a promotional event by Halloween Alley and it was really fun.
What else? Oh right, we have a car now. A Mitsubishi Pajero named Jerry. It looks good and has been well-equipped by now. Tim, Annelise's cousin, helped us with all of this and he has been the biggest help we've had down here so far. God bless that man. Without him, we wouldn't be where we are now.
It was also at his place where we saw our first venomous spider. The Redback Spider. Google it, it's really not fun to get bitten by it. But it's cool to look at.
In conclusion, I can say that Melbourne has been really cool so far. We've met some cool people and of course, visited some clubs and bars. We've made good money here and enjoyed the work, but it's time to leave the city and explore Australia.
