Reparations

A knee-slapper among sailors: “Sailing means repairing your boat in the most beautiful places in the world.”

I don't know if that applies to Peterhead.

Now I know the city center, Aldi, and the nearest yacht supplier in Macduff, 40 minutes away. But the taxi ride there was very enlightening: all Scottish houses are gray, the rhododendrons and fuchsia hedges are beautiful, and there are a lot of cows and sheep. Although, browsing through the ADAC travel magazine would have been enough for this knowledge.

But repairs were made! The autopilot received new, soldered brushes, the front toilet new seals, the genoa a new halyard with a homemade eye, the ship a lockable (!) winch handle, and we a double thermos flask for night watches.

The sail load (please read) was completely emptied, desalinated, drained, and rearranged.

In fact, a lot was moved back and forth, because in order to get to something on the ship, you first have to clear three things away.

When we and the Starlight were finished, the next weather window for the optimal passage to Kirkwall (Orkney Islands) was spotted and off we went.

By the way, the autopilot worked for exactly five minutes.
