Today, we had two temple visits planned.
After a small breakfast, we called a taxi using the GRAB app (you can see directly where the next taxi is and how much it costs), which took us to Wat Rong Khun, also known as the White Temple, located a bit outside of the city.
When we arrived, we were overwhelmed by the mass of tourists...we had been avoiding such attractions in the first few days.
But if you're in Chiang Rai, visiting the White Temple is a must, so we had to go through it as well.
And the visit was worth it.
The temple is truly impressive.
After about two hours, we had explored the extensive grounds and took a taxi booked through GRAB back to the bus terminal in Chiang Rai.
We had planned to walk to the Blue Temple, Wat Rong Suea Ten. According to Google Maps, it was about a 45-minute walk.
However, our walk ended at a bridge over the Mae Kok river.
Unfortunately, the bridge was not very suitable for pedestrians.
So we hailed a typical Thai taxi and drove the remaining distance.
This temple is also worth a visit.
The ceiling paintings are simply amazing!
We spent our last evening in Chiang Rai at the food market.
Tomorrow, we will continue to the border with Laos!
