Day 220- 226 We spent the days in Khao Lak very quietly. The first few days we slept a lot to recover from the diving safari. Then we became a bit more active. The hostess gave us dishes so we could make oatmeal with fresh fruit and yoghurt in the morning. Once we rented a scooter and drove to a beach called Coconut Beach. Unfortunately there were a lot of jellyfish in the water and on the beach. So we just lay around lazily on the loungers. On another day we drove to a beach where the 2004 tsunami hit hard. There are many pictures on trees there that commemorate the missing people. Especially the children who didn't know where to go because they were so panicked and were swept away by the water. There are many examples of these sad fates. What makes the disaster so extreme is that there were already digital cameras at the time and so everything was well documented. Not just after the disaster, but also during it from rooftops or in the last seconds of the person behind the camera.
It's raining more often now. Sometimes only in the evenings, which is nice, but one day it didn't stop during the day either. It was a bed day.
We planned a bit further. By chance I found an animal shelter called Soi Dog, where you can also do volunteer work for a short period of time. Uh, I need a task again!! Ivar wants to become a cool surfer dude and look for some waves. Both are near Phuket, but in different suburbs. On Sunday, May 19th, we took the bus to Phuket airport together. I can walk to my new hostel from there. Ivar still has to take a bus. My hostel is really nice with a pool and bikes! After checking in, I rented a bike and rode around the area. I found a great market where I got delicious fruit for a reasonable price and also rode along the beach. I bought pasta, sauce, vegetables and a Tupperware container in a supermarket. Since the hostel has a kitchen, I would like to cook for myself! Finally spaghetti again! And it was so delicious! I packed the leftovers in the new container for the next day. My first day of work in 8 months at Soi Dog.
