After we arrived at Cu Chi yesterday, we were able to quickly ride our motorcycles to the first tunnel this morning. These tunnels were built by Vietnamese fighters during the Vietnam War to hide from the Americans and set up ambushes. Upon arrival, we were shown a video about the heroic actions of the Cu Gorillas. This reminded us more of a propaganda video than an informative film that would have been suitable for a museum. Afterwards, we were taken on a guided tour of the tunnel complex. We were even allowed to try crawling through the narrow tunnel entrance on the ground ourselves. At the end of the tour, we were allowed to crawl through a section of the tunnel that was about 100 meters long. We all had to struggle a bit with our minds and heads because the tunnel was very narrow.
After visiting the first displayed section of the tunnel, we drove 15km north, where a second section was waiting for us. First, we visited a temple there, which contained a large statue of Ho Chi Minh. On the wall, there were countless names of fallen soldiers. To our disappointment, what we saw there was almost the same as what we had seen at the first museum. However, it was very exciting to crawl through the tunnels a second time.
After visiting the two museums, we continued to Vinh An. The route mostly led over very busy main roads. But after about 3 hours, we safely reached our hotel.
