16.10. First Balance

Жарияланды: 16.10.2018

Today was once again a travel day, so there is not much to tell. Actually, we wanted to go to a Cambodian island today, but the bus was so slow that we missed the last ferry and can only go over there tomorrow. Now we are stuck in Sihanoukville, which is not a really nice city...

But now more than a week has passed and it is time to draw a short balance. The beginning was a bit bumpy, as my backpack was missing. Nevertheless, we had wonderful first days in Bangkok and Siem Reap and luckily the backpack came back to me. However, I didn't make it through the first week without a little bit of homesickness and it occasionally crept in from time to time. Fortunately, I am not alone here and home is always within reach. However, my family and I have not had any contact for a few days now, maybe it helps to distance myself a little mentally.

I'm feeling great health-wise. I had no problems with the food here, even though I eat a lot from the sometimes a bit dirty street stalls because it's so cheap and you get a satisfying meal for a dollar.

I've already been bitten by a few mosquitoes and haven't contracted malaria; knock on wood.

What often gets to me is the weather. Not necessarily the high temperatures, which can be escaped at least partially, but the high humidity that already makes you sweat while standing still. Then the airy tuk-tuk rides are always welcome, which are always incredibly fun and where you can also have a nice chat with the drivers, who then scream against the traffic and the direction of travel.

Other than that, I see so many incredible things here that it feels like I've been away for more than two weeks, which is often the case at the beginning of a journey. I'm curious to see what else is in store for me and thank you for reading this blog in the first week!
