After 2 days in the same place it's time to say goodbye. It's about time - the weather is lousy.
Since last night it has been raining cats and dogs. Since we were already exhausted last night and in bed at 7:30, we could leave early today.
On the way from the Well Gray Provincal Park, there was a waterfall just a short walk from the road. Perfect for rainy weather. We were also the only ones - so early and in the rain.
Kurt Krömer came into action again, Kurt as a bear scare. We had barely started when we were already there.
The Spahats Creek Falls, 70 meters high. Take pictures and go.
We have about 300 km ahead of us today - to Jasper National Park in the province of Alberta.
If everything goes well, we should have the journey behind us in about 4 hours. After refueling with 170 liters and stocking up on groceries, we leave Clearwater via Highway 5.
Somewhere on the way is Little Hells Gate. So we get off the sufficiently well-paved highway and onto the narrow, unpaved, pothole gravel road.
Hopefully... hardly even thought about it, the camper is already there too. We were lucky, we could back up at that spot. Let's go on - next car a pickup truck. We can only go forward with our vehicle. The other driver also saw it that way, he backed up - we continued. At the end of the track, a water channel rewards us.
The return journey remains free of oncoming traffic - thank goodness. We don't need that again. If a tire bursts here, you're screwed.
No network, no tools, no jack - but at least a spare tire under the car.
Well, I thought the network in Australia was bad, but here in the vastness of Canada it's underground. Except in the vicinity of towns, you are cut off from the world here.
Actually, another detour was planned, but after the experience at Little Hells Gate, we decided against it.
So we rush with our vehicle at 100 km/h on the single-lane highway and get passed by a truck - unbelievable.
In the early afternoon, we reach our campground, Wapiti Campground in Jasper. We were able to make a reservation for today and hoped to extend it. We want to stay for 3 days. We can, we just have to move to another site tomorrow. But that shouldn't be a problem.
The campground itself is nicely located between the mountains by the river.
The weather gets better minute by minute. Today we make a campfire and grill 🍔and baked potatoes.
Jammy 😋.
