We have been here on the Costa Blanca for 3 days now. The place is called Oliva and is near Alicante, Benidorm, and Calpe. Does it ring a bell for you, Marlies? It is said that where oranges grow, the weather is very stable, even in winter. Since there are countless plantations with all kinds of citrus fruits growing here, hopefully the weather will also abide by this wisdom. They also talk about the microclimate here, or simply the retirement weather. And there are plenty of retired people here as well.
And what can I tell you, the sun shines truly day and night.
We are only a stone's throw away from a magnificent beach again. The water is as warm as the air. It's still too cold for Holger, but he bravely goes in with me every day. We can reach everything that is important to us with our bicycles. But first, we just want to enjoy the beach and the relaxed life here on the dune.
There are beach bars with music, lounges with delicious drinks, and great Spanish food. In the morning, there are sports activities on the beach, which I like to participate in, while Holger prefers to stay in bed. In the morning (after the sports), there is fresh bread from the bakery, which smells over the whole square, and a farmer comes by daily to sell fresh fruit and vegetables. For us, it's a little paradise. If only there weren't the flies. Holger seems to like them especially. He is constantly attacked and constantly waving around with the fly swatter.
We think it's great here, especially since we know that back home the first frost is wreaking havoc and meanwhile we are sitting outside in summer clothes at 25° and having a delicious breakfast.
See you - Beate
P.S.: On the highway, we came across a place called 'Peniscola', really. I couldn't get that out of my mind for the whole drive. Someone should create 'Peniscola on the rocks' and patent it, like they did with 'Ballermann'. Holger thinks this idea is stupid.
