I spent 4 days in Koh Lanta, an island in the south of Thailand.
To be more precise, I actually spent 4 days in a hostel because it had been raining on a tour for the past week. When I arrived, it was dry, and I was very happy to be at the first place where I was alone and could do exactly what I felt like doing. In the evening, I explored the beach right in front of the hostel and unexpectedly witnessed a super beautiful sunset. Excited for my time here, I wrote down many things I wanted to do: waterfalls, cute cafés, viewpoints, beaches, and of course massages.
On the first morning, I woke up to monsoon-like rain. It was pretty cool to see such volumes of water falling while it was still 27 degrees Celsius. But after a long, long wait with no end in sight, I decided that today would simply be a relaxed day where I would eat and relax in the hostel. Eventually, I dared to go to a massage in my rain poncho, which was really lovely! I met a Japanese woman, and we sat on the pier for a bit while the masseuse provided us with fruits. Also, in the evening, I met a girl, and so I was no longer alone for the next few days. A large group of solo travelers from all over the world had formed.
The next day, it rained heavily again, and we spent the day chilling, playing cards, eating, and playing billiards. Since we all had a lot of fun together, it wasn’t so tragic to be unable to do anything. Still, I actually wanted to see something of the island.
On the morning of the third day, I did actually see the sun and a blue sky; I hadn’t even dared to hope for that. ;) But after about 15 minutes, it was over again, and more than a short walk on the beach wasn't possible because it poured down for the next few hours.
In the afternoon, I went with a girl from the hostel to the south of the island, and we looked around the old town a bit.
I am currently lying in my room, waiting for my bus to pick me up for Krabi. I will stay one night in Krabi and then take a bus to Malaysia, specifically to George Town. This country wasn’t actually planned, but since my original plan to go to Vietnam was shattered by a typhoon, I am now exploring this country. I am very excited about it, but I am also a bit sad that I can't go to Vietnam. A few days ago, there was a very strong typhoon there, especially affecting the north, the area I wanted to go to. But luckily, I am still young, and this shouldn’t be my last trip in this big wide world! ;) So off to Malaysia!!
