Thailand - Relaxing on Koh Lanta

March 17th to 21st: From Krabi, we take a ferry to Koh Lanta. Originally, we didn't plan on renting a car and wanted to travel 'alternatively' in Asia. Even after arriving in Phuket and Krabi, we stick to this plan when we take a closer look at the transportation here.

On Koh Lanta, we rent a beach resort for four days. With (European) breakfast buffet (which makes our kids very happy), an infinity pool, located directly on a beautiful sandy beach called Long Beach. Baby Le can finally crawl and dig as much as he wants here. He starts pulling himself up in his crib and smiles proudly at us when he manages to stand. The kids love the pool and practice diligently for their swimming badges. Sometimes, it feels like they are growing fins. Ma gets wilder in the water and practices doing head dives with his older sister. With Fa, we work on her last learning plan for school before she also has a break from studying and goes on vacation. We go for Thai massages, take walks on the beach, swim in the turquoise blue water, and enjoy delicious meals. We take it easy here.

One night, we get caught up in a karaoke bar. After initial shyness, all inhibitions are lost for my loved ones, and Bo, Fa, and Ma rock the place with songs by Helene Fischer and of course, 'ein Stern, der deinen Namen trägt' (a German song). Those who know Bo know what that means. The tasty Chang beer here also contributed to the fun ;-) The kids have a blast on stage and don't want to go back to the hotel. Fa naturally sings the dramatic 'Elsa song' from Frozen. Ma's repertoire of songs is stuck in Christmas time and hasn't really evolved. At this point, you can really see what our kindergarten accomplishes. But even here, the friendly Thai DJ ('no problem, one minute') can help and plays 'Weck den Weihnachtsmann' for Ma at tropical temperatures. I really enjoy this evening. Meanwhile, Baby Le also gets entertained by the bar staff, who are all doting on him. Since there are hardly any other guests, he is the center of attention and absolutely loves it. There is no sign of him being shy with strangers. Fa is slightly surprised afterwards that she didn't earn any money with her singing. After all, we would give money to good street musicians more often... I simply attribute it to the fact that there are hardly any guests and the few ones don't have much to spare for German Christmas songs and don't know how to appreciate them ;-)
