Popa-Falls

Today, in purely geographical terms, the return journey begins, but we have planned it in several stages. The journey ends after 4 hours and about 380 km in White Sand Lodge Campsite at the Popa Falls. Ultimately, these are not waterfalls but 3 m deep rapids of the Okavango, which do make quite a bit of noise. We are about 10 m away with our roof tent and can hear the rushing water all the time.

We are advised to go on a sunset boat tour, so we are excited to see what awaits us. In addition to two small crocodiles, which seem a bit small compared to the ones we saw yesterday, this time we see a lot of hippos up close. Even though they keep diving, we can spot over 30 different ones in total, some on land, some in the water.

After sunset, night falls again in a very short time and we want to go to the bar, which is a bit further away from the campsite, at around 8:30 p.m. after cooking, the camp manager comes towards us with security just before we reach the bar and asks why we are still walking around alone in the dark.

Eventually, as the bar was already closed, we were sent home, albeit accompanied by armed security. The hippos obviously come to the camp grounds to feed and can attack people if they are not in the car or tent.

So we go into our roof tent early - tomorrow we have the longest drive of our tour scheduled.
