Greymouth - Murchison

14.2. - 18.2.

From Greymouth we are now heading back through the heart of the country to the north.

But the road is surprisingly terrible! At first, we were driving on a parallel road to the highway - it was great, the landscape was like in Austria. But since yesterday we are back in the middle of the forests. The road goes up and down and up and down (just when you have driven up a huge mountain, you have to go down the same altitude again and after a few kilometers up again). However, that's not the worst part! People drive like crazy! Seriously. It's horror! They don't care if there is oncoming traffic or not, the trucks, cars, etc. pass by very closely.

We have now decided to change the route towards the north somehow. We can't take this anymore!

So we can really give a conclusion: New Zealand is not the perfect country for cycling. We are also a little disappointed with the landscape. There are some great places, but if you know Austria, then New Zealand is not very special.

Let's see how the North Island goes. Or maybe it will be different when we are traveling by car.

Pichler is visiting us in 2 weeks and then we will rent a car for 3 weeks. We are really looking forward to it!
