We are in Argentina! After over two months in Brazil, we cross the border and leave behind a beautiful and very diverse country. A new language, new currency, new money, and a new culture await us.
It is December 20th and we are sitting on the bus to Montecarlo, a city in the north of Argentina in the province of Misiones, 100 km south of the Iguazu Falls. What brings us here? Family. In 1880, my great-great-grandfather's brother immigrated to Argentina. They have been living in Bunin Motecarlo for generations. A German school, a bakery with Swabian pretzels and onion cake at Christmas - are we really in Argentina? Even the Swabian dialect is still spoken here!
Aunt Elsa welcomes us with a lot of hospitality. We get to know the whole extended family, sociability, togetherness, and celebrating together are at the top of the agenda here. We are welcomed with open arms and feel very, very comfortable. What a warm family! We celebrate a beautiful Christmas in the summer, it is unique. I meet my family in Argentina and I am overjoyed!
