China Trip 2/Part 2 - Xian

From Shenzhen, I flew to Xian in the evening and had a wonderful 2-hour delay. I arrived at the hostel at three o'clock in the morning by bus, taxi, and everything. Yaaay.

Nevertheless, in the morning, I immediately set off and first went to the city wall, which is super famous for Xian. On the top, you could rent a bike and ride the 14km city wall. It was very beautiful but also a bit exhausting because the bikes were really rickety and the ground was paved, so I thought I would get a concussion from the rattling. But of course, I survived and then spent the rest of the day only walking or taking the bus ;)

After that, I walked past the Drum and Bell Tower to the Muslim Quarter. It is still questionable why it is called the Muslim Quarter, as it hardly differed from other Chinese streets and I also saw pigs hanging everywhere and pig feet being sold, which was a bit mysterious.

Pig feet? Yes/No??? ;)

Then there was a mosque, which I visited, and it hardly looked any different from all the other temples I saw in China, and the dress code was not really enforced. Although I was given a black robe, there were many Chinese women inside wearing hot pants and tops. So not really typical either. Nevertheless, it was a great colorful area with lots of street food, of which I tried some in the evening. ;)

Afterwards, I continued to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and strolled through the park a bit. From there, I went back to the hostel and rested a bit until I went back to the Muslim Quarter for dinner in the evening. That was already day one in Xian ;)

The main highlight for which I traveled to Xian was the famous Terracotta Army. For that, I booked a tour, which actually lasted the whole second day. First, we went to a factory where such terracotta soldier souvenirs are made. A lot was explained there, and what I found most interesting was that some bodies of the soldiers are the same, but all the heads are different, so the heads are made separately and then attached to the bodies :D
Afterwards, we went on to have lunch and finally to the actual exhibition of the army. It was really impressive on one side, but on the other hand, I somehow expected more.

This is the first hall where most of it can be seen and is also the most famous. But already in the rear part, there are only fractions or nothing at all, and then in halls two and three, there is almost nothing excavated. That's why the first impression when you see all the soldiers is impressive, but then that's it. At least I can now say that I've been there and seen it ;)
After the tour, I was taken directly to the train station because I was already continuing with the night train to Beijing. :)
