12/23/2023 Devil's Island, French Guiana - because of it!
Today was the first major disappointment: Because of the stormy weather, the tendering, i.e. the transfer from the ship to land with the dinghies, could not take place and we all had to stay on board.
As an alternative, I went to the cinema and saw “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”. The film far exceeded my expectations, was brilliantly made and made me laugh heartily. Anyway.
In the early evening, guitarist Mario d'Andrea had a very successful performance with his seven-piece accompanying orchestra.
Later in the evening the Christmas events started. Most of them had dressed up and were walking around in horrible Christmas sweaters or wearing Santa hats and reindeer antlers - in short, they were walking around like idiots. I wasn't prepared for this and I had to improvise. In order to fit in with my fellow travelers, I used hair setting agent to put together a stupid hairstyle, like a "Christmas unicorn". At least my creation earned me a compliment. Anyone who wanted to could stand for election in their elevator, and prizes were awarded to the three craziest people.
The evening was long and happy for me; I had a great chat with some of my fellow travelers. I spoke to an Australian for a particularly long time, although I had some difficulty with his dialect. After midnight I called it a day.
