2.7.2024 Carrara
I had booked a trip to Florence and Pisa. We gathered at 8:00 am and left the ship.
After a good 1 1/2 hours we reached Florence. Now the strenuous part began. Our friendly tour guide Umberto led us into the city center. Then he gave us almost three hours to explore the city.
Florence was full. And hot. I looked at the David and other statues at the Palazzo Vecchio, passed the Palazzo Strozzi, saw the Basilica di Santa Maria Novella and was impressed by the Cathedral of Florence (Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fior), within sight of which I treated myself to a pizza.
I took in the city until it was time to go to our meeting point. From there, a guided tour lasting about an hour started, which ended at our bus.
The onward journey to Pisa was delayed because someone had fallen and needed medical attention.
We reached Pisa an hour and a half after departure. We had to walk another 800 m to reach the city walls, behind which the impressive cathedral and the famous leaning tower awaited us. Unfortunately, we had to hurry quite a bit, because half an hour later we were already making our way back to the bus.
We were back on the ship shortly after 7 p.m. I took a few more photos of Carrara and its marble quarries before watching the Florentine flag-waving troupe "Sbandieratori". I skipped dinner.
