Krems an der Donau

The night to Saturday (01.07.2017) was rather mixed and so is the morning a very tough matter. Around noon we are finally ready to start and leave in Melk. After about one and a half kilometers I notice the absence of my food bag. It seems to be still at the pier in Melk... After a short thought I decide to dock and walk back the distance. On the way it turns out that I am crossing a military training area, but on weekends it doesn't seem to interest anyone and I can pass undisturbed. Back at the Clipper, which Rango has guarded admirably, I decide to set sail after all. At the start in Melk, the wind seemed a bit too strong to me, but under the impression of the unplanned detour I dare anyway. Thanks to a constant tailwind, we sometimes reach speeds of nearly 10 km/h. We pass through the very picturesque Wachau region, leaving small castles, palaces, and partly idyllic-looking villages behind us. In the early evening, we dock shortly before Mautern an der Donau and set up our camp.

On Sunday, drizzle wakes me up and I take the laundry off around 6:30 a.m. After the unpleasantly early start of the day, we can set off towards Krems after breakfast in dry weather. We cross the Danube, stroll along the left bank to the yacht club, and then make our way through the city park to the old town of Krems. The town with its 25,000 inhabitants is framed on one side by partly steep vineyards and on the other by the Danube, and has a fairly large closed old town district. Today Rango is somehow in a fighting mood and starts fights with every four-legged creature he can find - it has been more relaxed before. We stroll through Krems and the adjacent Stein until early afternoon, before returning to the tent. Since the sun is also shining again, I postpone the continuation of the journey to the next day and treat myself to a few hours of idleness.
