Our last stop in Malaysia was Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. We flew from Langkawi to KL, as Kuala Lumpur is called by locals and backpackers.
The city is not a big highlight, especially compared to Singapore or the small but fine George Town. However, a highlight for us was the apartment building called 'The Face', where our vacation rental was located. It was absolutely incredible! We felt completely out of place when we entered the grand entrance hall with our backpacks.
From our room, we had an amazing view of the city. But the best part of all was the panoramic pool on the Skydeck of the building! We couldn't believe our luck! :-)
Right next to the apartment building is an old quarter of KL, surrounded by skyscrapers. Everything here is a bit quieter compared to the busy business district in the city center. While strolling through the quarter, we were accompanied by the sound of muezzin chants the whole time. Malaysia is a Muslim country, so the chants are present everywhere five times a day.
The landmarks of KL are the Petronas Towers. However, since we had an equally good view of the city from our 'vacation home', we decided to skip the visit and head towards Chinatown instead.
We spent the evening (appropriately) at the 'Heli-Bar', a lounge (pub is not the right word here) on a former helicopter landing spot. Again, we had a phenomenal view of KL!
After almost freezing during our dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe, we were glad to have a hot shower and our cozy bed!
