Day 36 - A long hike in Fulufjellet

Გამოქვეყნდა: 28.08.2017

We woke up at 6 am so that we could start our journey to Fulufjellet at 7:15 am. We were meeting friends of Jochen and Jutta at 10:00 am to go hiking there. The plan was to hike 17 kilometers to the Göljån Hut in the national park. We packed enough food and water because the hike would take several hours. The nature was truly impressive and beautiful. We hiked through marshes and a forest where most of the trees are more than 1000 years old.

We wanted to make our first stop at a small shelter. It was a few kilometers away from the parking lot and it took us longer than expected to get there because the indicated distance was incorrect. It was actually a few kilometers more, so we were relieved when we reached the hut.

By now, it was already noon and our next goal was the Göljån Hut. It is located at an elevation of almost 1000 meters. According to a hiking sign, it should have been 3.5 kilometers from the shelter and therefore easy to reach. We started hiking and crossed the tree line.

It's amazing to see how the nature changes. With every meter, the landscape becomes more barren. We had to climb over small rivers and constantly look for the hiking trail because many markers were missing.

The weather was really nice, which made the hike even more enjoyable.

But soon we realized that the 3.5 kilometers couldn't be right. We kept hiking and after several more kilometers and 2 hours, we finally saw the hut.

From there, we had an incredible view of the national park. We took another break and prepared ourselves for the descent.

We had already hiked almost 17 kilometers by this point. Each national park in Sweden has its own unique feature. In Fulufjellet, it was the fact that a flood wave passed through the national park in 1997 and caused a huge devastation. When we arrived at that spot, we could see how powerful nature can be. The destruction was unbelievable and there were still rocks everywhere.

We crossed the pile of rocks and continued hiking. The nature there is incredibly beautiful and unique, and every kilometer was worth it. In the end, we hiked almost 24 kilometers in 7 and a half hours. Exhausted and tired, we arrived back at the car and drove 3 hours back to Eksärad. We enjoyed the comforts of a house and a warm shower. After showering, we had pasta with Bolognese sauce. It was delicious and gave us the energy we needed. Tired from the hike and the incredible experiences, we went to bed.

Here are some more impressions from our hike:
