19 August 23 Trenta > Vršič pass top
Actually, this stage would go to Planinski dom Tamar, I only shortened the route up to the top of the pass. The reason is probably yesterday's stage and the heat! The path through the Soča valley was very pleasant, but above the source of the Soča it became very steep and hot, so I ran out of breath. The path sometimes led along the pass road for short stretches, which was associated with a lot of motorbikes and car noise. At the top of the pass I asked for a bed in the restaurant and lo and behold I was lucky again. I think that was the last! Very pleasant rooms and clean also toilet and shower!!! That was just a short distance but what the heck? A beautiful evening mood and loud conversation from Hungarian motorcyclists rounded off the evening.
20 August 23 Vršič pass > Planica
The morning again glorious with a steel blue sky. The further the path led, the more grateful I was that I didn't complete this stage in one go. The beginning is nice and comfortable up to the viewpoint Slemenova špica, where you can see the wide valley of Planica. This was followed by a steep descent through forest scree heaps and finally through a washed-out coulvoir. Having survived everything, the path went flat down to the ski jumps of Planica. There is also a training center for various sports. It has facilities for football and basketball, fitness center, gymnasium and also includes a photo gallery with famous athletes who have trained there or won on the big hill. Among others, Walter Steiner as the first ski flying world champion! I also stayed there and was amazed at the low price. I was able to have dinner and breakfast with young people from Serbia who were in the sports camp there. Are the same little rascals as with us!
21 Aug 23 Planica > Kranjska Gora
Packed everything back in my rucksack, strengthened with a hearty breakfast, I headed towards Kranjska Gora. This short part of the Via Alpina is also flat through the forest with lots of mosquitoes. The tour would lead up to the Wurzenpass at Podkoren, where the World Cup slope also has its destination. At breakfast on the Vršič Pass, someone said Kranjska Gora was the Chamonix of Slovenia! I found a room without any problems and looked around the town but I didn't think it was that nice either! Unpack everything, wash your clothes and just rest a bit, that was also the purpose of this stay. The lift that goes up the highest ends at 1560 m and it's not extremely steep. So I don't want to go there for a week's skiing. Of course, you also need the lifts in summer because there are still hotels at the top. The site is used for all kinds of other activities in summer. So tomorrow we continue on the Via Alpina!
